Kindergarten and first grade students entering a Georgia public school for the first time must be age five on or before September 1 to enter kindergarten and age six on or before September 1 to enter first grade. Summer registration for students new to Lilburn Elementary will be any week day in July (except July 4th) from 10 am to 2 pm with proper documentation.
In all Georgia public schools, kindergarten students are evaluated during the year to determine their readiness for first grade. Parents of students coming to first grade from private kindergartens or out-of-state schools should call their local school for information about registration and evaluation.
Documents Required for Registration
- An official document showing proof of birth date. Examples include an original birth certificate with a seal, an official Immigration and Naturalization document, or other state/federal forms with date of birth. (kindergarten and first grade only) no hospital certificates will be accepted.
- Georgia Immunization Form and Vision, Hearing, and Dental Certificates: State forms are available at the Buford, Norcross, and Lawrenceville health centers, and at most private physicians' and dentists' offices. Immunization forms from other states must be transferred to Georgia forms -Georgia Form 3231. A valid immunization form must be marked in the appropriate box with either "Complete for School Attendance" or "Date of Expiration." Students new to Gwinnett County schools who are entering grades 2-12 will need to present evidence of vision, hearing, and dental examinations obtained within the past year. The vision, hearing and dental screening must be on Georgia Form 3300. No waivers will be given to registering kindergarten students. All kindergarten students must have these form complete to register
- Proof of Residency: Must have one of the following: a house contract, a non-contingency sales contract, lease, or deed. In addition, one current utility bill (electric, water, gas or cable) is required - phone bills are not acceptable.
- Proof of custody or guardianship if you are not the birth parent.
- Social Security Number: At the time of initial enrollment, a social security number will be requested for each student in accordance with Georgia law. Social security numbers are not required for enrollment and no student will be denied enrollment for declining to provide his or her number. Parents may choose not to provide a social security number by signing a written waiver. A form provided by the school may be used for the waiver, or parents may simply provide a written objection with their signature.
