The GLOBE Program at Lilburn
Since the spring of 1999 students at Lilburn Elementary School have been
participating in an exciting hands on weather and environmental science
program called
GLOBE (global observations to benefit the environment).
The students are trained to take various environmental measurements identified
and designed by an international group of scientists and educators.
The observations and data collected by the students are then sent via the
Internet to a processing center where the data is made available to environmental
scientists around the world. The observations made by the students
around the world, including our students at Lilburn Elementary, are an
important part of understanding the global environment.
As of August 2002 the students at our school have made over 4,500 environmental
measurements!
