 Why would someone risk life and limb to explore the unknown or extreme environments?  Throughout history there have been amazing stories of adventure and survival as men and women dared to risk everything for the sake of adventure.  They sailed uncharted seas, climbed the highest mountains, flew to the moon, or crossed arid deserts.  Maybe their motivation was scientific curiosity.  Others probably sought fame.
