Exemplars is a series of math word problems.
The focus is on teaching kids to document their processes and solutions. (just like the Gateway).

Each problem includes:

• A well written math problem to use with the kids.
• Information about the problem and suggestions for the teacher
• Examples of benchmark student responses to the problem:
Novice
Appentice
Practitioner
Expert

The benchmarks give students and teachers a framework for evaluating students' work
The idea is similar to the writing stages- through practice and instruction students will advance through the stages.
