Pelli was born on October 12, 1926 in Tucuman Argentina. Cesar Pelli went
to University of Tucuman in Argentina, and immigrated
to the United States in 1952 and attended the University of Illinois from
1952- 1954. He
married a fellow student, Diana Bolmori who has become an accomplished
landscape
and urban designer. The next ten years, Pelli worked as a designer
with the firm of Eero Saarinen and Associates in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan,
and Hamden Connecticut. He designed the World Financial Center in New York near the now destroyed World Trade Center. Known for designing skyscrapers, his number among some of the world's tallest. Cesar Pelli returned to Argentina to teach architectural
design at his alma mater,the University of Tucuman in 1960. In 1964 Pelli
became a U.S. citizen. Pelli served as Dean of Architecture at Yale University from 1977-1984. "It is our task to develop, with our technology, an architecture as rich
meaningful, and loved as was the architecture of stone." For Pelli
it is the enclosure of the building which is most meaningful. He focuses
on construction, and its technology. This use of materials also helps define
his work. He uses thin stone glass, stainless steel, brick, and aluminum.
Pelli is an architect who wants his buildings to be useful, long-lasting,
and expressive.
