Wells Cathedral is filled with lots of geometry and patterns from the ceiling to the floor. The ceiling probably has the most geometry and patterns. The ceiling of the nave has a crisscross pattern called a groin vault. Well, half of the nave has a groin vault, the other half has flowery patterns. The whole nave is almost as long as the cathedral. A bay is located in the middle of the nave and transept. The ceiling of the bay is highly decorated with four pillars. In the middle of the pillars (above the pillar on the ceiling) there is a circle with four triangles that surround the circle. Around the circle and triangles there is a rotation of lines. The front of the cathedral, with the towers, is symmetrical. The front door of Wells Cathedral is a Gothic arch. The towers of the cathedral are 160 feet tall. The breadth of the nave is 38 feet tall. The breadth of the west front is 47 feet. The breadth of the nave is 161 feet. The chancel is at the very back of the cathedral. There are two side chapels close to the back of the building. The area of Wells Cathedral covers 29,070 feet.
