Frank Lloyd Wright was born on June 8, 1867 and died on April 9,1959 in
Phoenix, Arizona. He was born in the town of Richland Center in Wisconsin.
As a child Frank Lloyd Wright played with blocks that his mother gave him.
Young Frank tried to run away from home because of all the work he was
forced to do, but his uncles kept finding him and bringing him back. Although,
one thing young Frank did like about living on a farm was being close to
nature. Between the time when Wright was a child and an adult he found
that nature had geometry. For example, he found that if you open a pea
pod there are little green spheres inside. Frank Lloyd Wright went to school
at the University of Wisconsin, Madison School of Engineering in
1885. In 1887 Wright left the University without getting his degree. After
that he moved to Chicago, Illinois.
When Wright was twenty-one he married an eighteen year old named Catherine Tobin. She was a wealthy business man's daughter. After he married he became more well known because his new father-in-law helped him. While he was with Catherine he had five children. During Wright's lifetime he had three wives. Frank Lloyd Wright was a well known and powerful architect during the twentieth century. Wright is known for his window designs in most of his homes. All of his windows use geometric shapes. Wright used straight lines, and with some windows used curves and circles. Frank Lloyd Wright's windows did not block the outside view so you could see the outside. One thing about Wright is that he loved to play with light and color in his buildings and houses. In 1932 Wright proposed the idea in his book called The Disappearing City. Frank Lloyd Wright built three hundred and two houses. Some of his houses have been destroyed by hurricanes, earthquakes, and disgruntled servants.
