Shah
Jahan commissioned the Taj Mahal as a burial palace for his beloved wife,
Mumtaz Mahal. The fifth emperor of the Mughal Empire, Shah Jahan's birth
name was Ghiyasud-din Muhammad. Born on January 5, 1592, he died on January
22, 1666. Shah Jahan's name means "King of the Palace". Architecture, architectural
decoration and design captivated Shah Jahan during most of his life. Greatly
fascinated, he regularly visited the buildings as they grew. He talked
about them and recommended changes that could be made.
Ustad Isa was the
architect of the Taj Mahal. It took Ustad Isa and his team twenty-two years
to build the Taj Mahal. Ustad Isa was Persian or Turkish. He is mostly
recognized as the architect of the Taj Mahal. Ustad Isa was hired by Shah
Jahan to build the Taj Mahal. Construction started in 1632 and ended in
1654.
