We have discussed before that google photos is a great place to save pictures of your class. Did you know that you can then use one of the albums or create a slide show via slides to insert in your eClass page? Since eClass is password protected, you don't have to worry about permissions for pictures like you would if they are on the web. Follow these directions for creating the slide presentation and then these directions for creating the custom widget within eClass.
If you aren't using Google drive to store all of your documents, you may wish you could access your H or S drive from home. Although we would recommend you get use to using Google Drive, remember to follow these directions when you are on your work computer but away from school so you can access your files.
Do you have have those times when one of your cute kids has played with the computer and the screen is turned sideways? (see image below) Well, there is an easy fix. Just press the Ctrl + Alt + up arrow keys and your screen will now be right side up:-) Here are John's written directions too.
The more you use Google, the more documents you get. Even creating folders it may be hard to find those one or two document you use all the time. Did you know that you can "star" a document to find it easier? When you are in your document, just click on the star next to the name. Now to look for it next time, you can just click on the "starred" area of Google Drive and see all those documents you starred for easy access.
Looking for a good virtual field trip? Want to collaborate with a class at another school? Well Polycom may be your answer. Polycom is the video conferencing platform used by the county. There is the Real Presence desktop application that can be loaded on your laptop and you can video conference with anyone else in the county just by typing their name! Then there is the "big" set up that can be rolled into your room so you can see the other location and they can watch you as well. Recently we had some teachers from Alford ES watch Ms. Call's class do a breakout session.
There is also a full list of museums and other locations like NASA that offer virtual field trips for schools. Some are even free! You will need to put in a ticket if you don't have the Real Presence software loaded on your laptop so John can push it out to you.
This is also how we will connect with people outside the county but with a part called Blue Jeans. Let me know if you need to set up video conferencing with an outside expert. We need a few days notice to get it set up.
Do you second guess your writing ability? Are you in graduate school? Do you wish you had a proof reader when you are typing on the web or writing papers in Word? Well, Grammarly may be for you. It is a plug-in for your browser or for Word and it will check all of your work for you and show you the corrections you need to make. It isn't as good as a real person, but it sure does come in handy. Check out their website to learn more.
Breakouts are still going well for all that have signed up. If you want me to come do one with your class but don't have a particular one in mind (like I didn't send out a link to something that may pertain to your grade level), please give me at least 1 week's notice so I can find one appropriate for your grade and content and then get all the "parts" together. There is Simple Machines that may be of interest for 4th grade and Fossil Fiasco that may be of interest for 3rd grade.
