Many of you were able to see the Osmo in action at Math Night and in Lulie Dunham's TOTY video. The school has 4 sets as well as iPads to use with them that can be checked out by the day or by the week. Here's what you can do with them:
Words - work on vocabulary words, either pre-created sets or sets of your own you make
Numbers - work number sense from counting to multiplication
Newton (pictured above) - Work on critical thinking by trying to get balls to bounce off of objects to hit targets
Masterpiece - learn to draw
Tangrams - make various shapes by using the tangram shapes.
If you would like to use them in your classroom, you can check them out up to a week at a time. You need to use the lab and media scheduling database to check them out just like you would a laptop cart. You will see Osmo as a choice. You need to put in a request per gaming set so if you want two for the week you need to reserve #1 and #2. Let me know if you need more assistance with that.
We are finished with all push in scheduling and working on a little bit more pull out scheduling that shouldn't affect gradebooks. Sorry for the time and delay in that process. One thing you need to know is that I cannot see anyone's gradebook at this point, nor can the office. So you will need to print grades reports for your students when they withdraw. Directions can be found here.
To show students that have withdrawn from your gradebook or moved to another section follow these directions.
Want a visual representation with "touch points" including graphics, sounds, text etc.? Then Thinglink is your solution. This is a great way for the students to synthesize their learning into a final project. Students log in and use a base graphic you have uploaded, then they can add graphics and text to various parts of the image to show what they know or have learned. Check out some past projects here.
